In 2004, the painted Etruscan tombs of Tarquinia have become part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site because "exceptional source of knowledge of life, customs and religious feeling of the Etruscans. They are indeed the extraordinary testimony of ancient painting preserved in culture flourished in historical times on the shores of the Mediterranean."
